Srinagar, Aug 1 (JKNS): The death toll in the Kulgam terror attack has risen to two after the second injured non-local labourer succumbed to his injuries during treatment on Saturday, officials said.
The attack, carried out by terrorists in the Kilam area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Friday evening, left two labourers from outside Jammu and Kashmir critically injured, one of whom died on the spot.
A senior J&K Police officer told news agency JKNS that the deceased have been identified as Deepak, a resident of Chhattisgarh, and Bopinder, a resident of Uttar Pradesh.
According to the officer, Deepak died on the spot after terrorists opened fire on the duo, while Bopinder sustained critical injuries and was initially shifted to Government Medical College (GMC), Anantnag.
However, owing to the seriousness of his condition, he was later referred to SKIMS Soura, where he succumbed despite medical efforts on Saturday.
Following the attack, security forces cordoned off the area and launched a massive search operation to track down the terrorists responsible.
Further investigation into the incident is underway. (JKNS)
