Budgam, July 28 (JKNS): Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) leader and former parliamentary candidate Er. Sheikh Jahangir has alleged that Khag Tehsil continues to face neglect in terms of development projects and basic infrastructure despite the region having extended significant support during the Assembly elections.
Addressing a press conference at his residence, as per news agency JKNS, Sheikh Jahangir claimed that although crores of rupees have been sanctioned for road construction, repairs, and other developmental works in the Khansahib constituency, Khag has not received its fair share of these projects.
He alleged that even from the recently allocated development packages and nearly ₹11 crore earmarked for road repairs and infrastructure improvement, the people of Khag have derived little benefit.
Questioning the implementation of development works, Sheikh Jahangir asked why important roads such as the Khag–Poshkar Road, Khag–Bamrada Road, Ari Pathan–Gujjar Patti Road, and several interior rural roads continue to remain in poor condition despite repeated demands for their upgradation and maintenance.
He said that the people of Khag have consistently participated in the democratic process and played a significant role in electing public representatives. Therefore, he argued, they have every right to know what developmental works have been undertaken in their area and how public funds are being utilized.
Referring to the recent flood-like situation in parts of the region, Sheikh Jahangir stated that inadequate road infrastructure and weak public facilities compounded the hardships faced by residents.
According to him, several villages still lack proper connectivity and essential services, affecting transportation, access to healthcare, and daily life.
The AIP leader called for greater transparency in the utilization of development funds and demanded an equitable distribution of resources across all areas of the constituency.
He stressed that development should not be confined to a few select localities but should benefit the entire population of the constituency.
Sheikh Jahangir further urged the government and concerned departments to undertake a comprehensive assessment of Khag’s developmental needs and take immediate steps to improve roads, drainage systems, and other essential infrastructure.
Appealing to the media, he requested journalists to highlight the issues faced by the people of Khag so that the authorities take serious measures to address their long-pending grievances.
He expressed hope that public demands, developmental requirements, and the provision of basic amenities would be given due priority.
Reiterating his concerns, Sheikh Jahangir said that despite Khag’s strong electoral support, the region continues to be overlooked. He maintained that development funds must be distributed fairly and that Khag deserves its rightful share of public resources.
He also alleged that the people of Khag are being treated unfairly and that the area has been deliberately kept backward.
According to him, not only elected representatives but also sections of the administration have failed to give adequate attention to the region’s concerns.
He added that Khag has suffered from prolonged neglect, leaving residents deprived of essential facilities and development opportunities.
Sheikh Jahangir urged public representatives, the administration, and relevant authorities to ensure justice for the people of Khag and take prompt and effective measures for the overall development of the area. (JKNS)
