Srinagar, July 28 (JKNS): At least 39 Amarnath pilgrims were injured in the bus accident at Ganiwan in Gund area of Ganderbal district on Tuesday, while Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha reviewed the condition of the injured.
A senior official told news agency JKNS, the accident occurred when the Amarnath Yatra bus bearing registration number AR11 D5655 lost control near Hariganiwan, causing it to skid off the road and plunge into a deep gorge. Rescue teams, police, SDRF, and local volunteers immediately rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation.
They said around 39 pilgrims sustained injuries in the mishap and were shifted to nearby Kangan hospital for treatment.
Officials further said two of the injured suffered head trauma but are currently stable. All other injured passengers are also stated to be in stable condition.
Meanwhile, police have taken cognizance of the incident and initiated an investigation to ascertain the cause of the accident.
Meanwhile, LG Sinha wrote on X, “Spoke with Deputy Commissioner, Ganderbal and health officials and inquired about the health condition of Shri Amarnathji Yatra pilgrims injured in the unfortunate road accident earlier this morning at Ganiwan, Ganderbal. 39 pilgrims returning after Darshan of Baba Barfani sustained injuries and are currently undergoing treatment at SKIMS. I have directed the health officials to ensure all necessary assistance and the best possible medical care. I pray to Lord Shiva for the speedy recovery of the injured devotees.” (JKNS)
