Magam, July 16 (JKNS): The Tehsil Legal Services Committee (TLSC), Magam, under the aegis of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Budgam and the J&K Legal Services Authority, on Wednesday organised a Legal Awareness Programme on Consumer Rights at Government Degree College, Magam.
The programme was organised in collaboration with Government Degree College, Magam and Human Rights & Anti-Corruption (HRAC), Headquarters Delhi (J&K UT).
The awareness session focused on Legal Services Institutions, the Right to Free Legal Aid, the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, Consumer Rights and Remedies, and Access to Justice. The programme aimed to educate students and the public about their legal rights and the free legal assistance available to eligible citizens.
Participants were briefed on the role and functioning of Legal Services Institutions and were encouraged to avail themselves of free legal aid whenever required. Resource persons also highlighted the importance of consumer awareness and explained the legal remedies available under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019 against unfair trade practices and deficient services.
The programme was chaired by Ms. Rabyia Snober Gulzar, Judicial Magistrate (Munsiff), Magam and Chairperson, Tehsil Legal Services Committee, Magam. Addressing the gathering, she emphasised the importance of promoting legal literacy and ensuring access to justice for every section of society.
The organisers reiterated their commitment to conducting similar legal awareness programmes in educational institutions and communities to strengthen legal empowerment and enhance public awareness about legal rights, consumer protection, and access to justice. (JKNS)
