Budgam, July 6 (JKNS): Bazm-e-Shireen Kawoosa Khalsa Kashmir, in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, organized a one-day Hussaini Conference followed by a grand Hussaini Mushaira at Kawoosa Khalsa, Narbal.
The event witnessed the participation of prominent scholars, writers, poets, cultural personalities, and a large number of people from different walks of life.
The conference was chaired by noted writer and literary figure Rahim Rehbar. Dr. Ghulam Nabi Haleem, Member of the J&K Waqf Board, attended as the Chief Guest, while renowned cultural activist Gulshan Budrani was the Guest of Honour. Sheikh Ghulam Rasool (Lassa Bab) hosted the programme, and Syed Qadri was also present on the presidium.
The proceedings were conducted by eminent writer and poet Khurshid Khamosh along with Mohammad Yousuf Malik.
The programme commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran by Molvi Hafiz Muzaffar, followed by a Naat presented by Maulana Javed. Delivering the keynote address, Molvi Abdul Majeed Malik highlighted the life, mission, and sacrifices of Imam Hussain (AS), emphasizing the universal message of Karbala.
Speakers observed that the sacrifice of Imam Hussain (AS) stands as an eternal symbol of truth, justice, patience, courage, selflessness, and resistance against oppression. They said that Karbala is not merely a historical event but a timeless lesson that inspires humanity to uphold righteousness, defend the oppressed, and stand firmly against injustice under all circumstances.
The speakers further said that Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions made the ultimate sacrifice to preserve the true spirit and values of Islam. They stressed that society should embrace the ideals of Karbala by promoting unity, brotherhood, compassion, tolerance, moral values, and selfless service to humanity.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Rafiq Shabnum, representative of the Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, underlined the importance of literary and cultural activities in promoting intellectual awareness, ethical values, and social harmony. Molvi Abdul Rashid also addressed the gathering and spoke about the spiritual and moral dimensions of the tragedy of Karbala.
During the conference, the latest issue of Bazm-e-Shireen’s literary journal “Shireen” was formally released, which participants described as a significant contribution to the region’s literary landscape.
The second session featured a well-attended Hussaini Mushaira chaired by Ali Mohammad Gohar, Dilbar Poshkari, Maqbool Shaida, and Khurshid Khamosh. Distinguished Urdu and Kashmiri poets recited their original compositions paying tribute to Imam Hussain (AS) and the martyrs of Karbala. Their performances received enthusiastic appreciation from the audience.
The Mushaira featured prominent poets including Maqbool Shaida, Shahzad Manzoor, Rahat Rafiq, Dilbar Poshkari, Nazir Shahid, Abdul Ahad Bhat, Sheikh Ghulam Rasool (Lassa Bab), Mohammad Yousuf Malik, Ameer-ud-Din Makhami, Ghulam Nabi Poshkari, Mohammad Akbar Kallan, Ali Mohammad Gohar, Rahim B., Dr. Ghulam Nabi Haleem, Gulshan Budrani, and Khurshid Khamosh.
On the occasion, Riyaz Ahmad Hajam, Fidak Shaukat, Fatima Rehman, Sehrish, and Mohammad Yousuf Noorani presented devotional poetry (Manqabat) in honour of Imam Hussain (AS), earning wide appreciation from the audience.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Khurshid Khamosh, who expressed gratitude to the guests, scholars, poets, volunteers, the Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, and all participants. He said that such literary, religious, and cultural events play a vital role in promoting the universal message of Karbala and inspiring the younger generation with the values of truth, justice, sacrifice, and humanity.
