Srinagar, July 3 (JKNS): The Meteorological Department on Friday forecast intermittent spells of rain and thunderstorms across Jammu and Kashmir till July 5, warning of heavy rainfall at isolated places that could trigger flash floods, landslides and mudslides in vulnerable areas.

Director Meteorological Centre Srinagar, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, told news agency JKNS said that significant rainfall was recorded in parts of Jammu region, with Udhampur receiving 85 mm, Kathua ARG 41.5 mm, and Rajpura ARG 27 mm, while light to moderate rainfall was recorded at other stations.

He said that from July 3 to July 5, one or two spells of light to moderate rain or thundershowers are expected at many places, mainly during late afternoon, evening and late night or early morning hours. He added that a few places may witness heavy rainfall, brief intense showers and thunderstorms.

Dr. Ahmad said that from July 6 to July 9, weather is expected to remain generally hot and humid, with intermittent spells of light to moderate rain and thundershowers at many places, while isolated areas may experience brief intense showers accompanied by thunder.

Issuing an advisory, the MeT Director warned that heavy rainfall or brief intense showers at a few places could generate localized flash floods, landslides and mudslides in vulnerable areas.

He advised people to stay away from nallas, streams and landslide or mudslide-prone locations and urged the public to follow official advisories during the forecast period. (JKNS)
