Rain Brings Relief from Heatwave Across J&K; Kathua Records Highest Rainfall

Srinagar, July 2 (JKNS): Widespread rainfall across Jammu and Kashmir during the past 24 hours brought significant relief from the prevailing heatwave, with several districts recording moderate to heavy showers and a noticeable drop in night temperatures, according to weather data.

Kathua recorded the highest rainfall in the Union Territory with 85.8 mm, followed by Katra (39.0 mm), Ramban (34.5 mm), Batkoot (27.0 mm), Kishtwar (25.0 mm), Pampore/Konibal (24.5 mm), Samba (20.5 mm) and Udhampur (16.0 mm), details available with news agency JKNS stated.

In Kashmir division, Pahalgam received 13.2 mm, Kokernag 11.7 mm, Sonamarg 11.5 mm, Qazigund 9.0 mm, Awantipora 6.8 mm, Gulmarg 4.8 mm, Khudwani 4.5 mm, Sangam 3.5 mm, Srinagar 2.4 mm, Anantnag 2.0 mm, Budgam 1.0 mm, Bandipora 1.0 mm, Asham 1.0 mm, Wular 1.0 mm and Baramulla 0.5 mm, while Kupwara recorded no rainfall.

In Jammu division, besides Kathua, rainfall was recorded in Jammu (1.8 mm), Banihal (5.9 mm), Batote (2.4 mm), Bhaderwah (8.0 mm), Rajouri (4.8 mm), Poonch (1.0 mm) and Doda (1.0 mm).

The rainfall also brought down minimum temperatures across the region. Pahalgam remained the coolest at 15.6°C, followed by Kokernag (16.1°C), Bhaderwah (16.8°C), Qazigund (17.5°C), Konibal/Pampore (17.5°C), Banihal (17.8°C), Kupwara (18.4°C), Srinagar (18.6°C), Batote (18.9°C), Gulmarg (12.0°C), Katra (21.6°C), Kathua (23.0°C) and Jammu (23.7°C).

According to the Meteorological Department, the recent rainfall has provided much-needed respite from the intense heatwave conditions that affected most parts of Jammu and Kashmir over the past several days. (JKNS)
