His appointment comes at a time when India continues to face evolving internal security challenges, including terrorism, radicalisation, cyber threats, espionage and cross-border infiltration. Officials believe his vast experience within the Intelligence Bureau will ensure continuity and further strengthen the agency’s operational capabilities.

Mahesh Dixit had also served in Jammu and Kashmir during one of its most sensitive phases following the abrogation of Article 370. As head of the Subsidiary Intelligence Bureau (SIB), Srinagar, he supervised intelligence operations across Jammu & Kashmir and Leh while coordinating closely with various security agencies to maintain stability and counter terror threats.

During his tenure in Kashmir, he was associated with intelligence coordination, monitoring militant and separatist networks and supporting efforts aimed at strengthening the democratic process. He is also credited with playing a key role in confidence-building initiatives in both Kashmir and Ladakh.

Known for his calm approach, strategic thinking and expertise in counter-terrorism and internal security, Dixit has handled several sensitive assignments across the country during his distinguished career.

As Director of the Intelligence Bureau, he will head India’s principal internal intelligence agency responsible for gathering and analysing intelligence related to terrorism, extremism, espionage, cyber security and other threats affecting national security. (JKNS)
