According to details available with news agency JKNS, the Chief Minister was accompanied by his Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani and Zadibal MLA Tanvir Sadiq.

During his visit, Omar Abdullah interacted with mourners and volunteers, appreciating their efforts in serving participants during the Ashura procession.

He also took part in the distribution of refreshments as devotees observed the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions in the Battle of Karbala.

Speaking to reporters, as per news agency JKNS, CM Omar said, “We all know the significance of the month of Muharram and the 10th of Muharram, Youm-e-Ashura. The sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) and the lessons we derive from that sacrifice are of immense importance. As long as we remember those lessons, it will be for our betterment. But when we forget those teachings, we end up facing destruction and ruin.”

He expressed hope that the historic Ashura procession would one day be restored to its original traditional route.

“I sincerely hope that the day will soon come when the Ashura procession returns to its original route. We have made many efforts in the past to restore the procession to its historic path, but we could not achieve that completely. We will continue our efforts in the future as well,” CM Omar said.

Thousands of mourners assembled at Zadibal and along the traditional procession route to observe Youm-e-Ashura with religious devotion, participating in mourning processions, Majalis and prayers to pay homage to the martyrs of Karbala. (JKNS)
