Jammu, June 16 (JKNS): BJP leader and MLA Ranbir Singh Pathania on Tuesday criticised the National Conference’s proposed protest at Jantar Mantar over the demand for restoration of statehood, saying the issue has already been committed to by Parliament and the country’s top leadership.
Speaking to reporters, as per news agency JKNS, Pathania termed the proposed programme in Delhi a “new drama” and “theatrics” by the National Conference and Chief Minister .
He said the demand for statehood should not be projected as an unresolved issue when the country’s Parliament, Prime Minister and Union Home Minister have already committed to its restoration.
Pathania said instead of organising protests, the National Conference should focus on fulfilling the promises made to the people during the Assembly elections.
He questioned when the government would deliver on its election guarantees, including free electricity, free travel, free gas cylinders and one lakh jobs.
Stating that he respects Omar Abdullah, the BJP leader said the Chief Minister should concentrate on transforming the developmental landscape of Jammu and Kashmir and addressing issues affecting the people on the ground.
He alleged that corruption continues to remain a concern and claimed that even legislators from the ruling party had raised such issues before the party leadership.
Pathania urged the government to come out of its “cocoon” and focus on governance, public welfare and tapping Jammu and Kashmir’s potential in sectors such as tourism, industry, science and technology, communications and filmmaking.
He also alleged a lack of coordination within the government, claiming that ministers, the party leadership and the administrative system appeared to be functioning in different directions.
“Somewhere, the commitments made to the people of Jammu and Kashmir are not being fulfilled,” he said, urging the Chief Minister to prioritise governance and development over political protests. (JKNS)
