Srinagar, Jun 13 (JKNS): Veteran Kashmiri folk and light music singer Shazia Hamid has been conferred with this year’s prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Yuva Puraskar (Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar), earning national recognition for her contribution to music.
Shazia Hamid, popularly known as the “Raj Begum of modern times,” has carved a distinct identity for herself through her unique singing style and powerful voice, particularly for her high-pitch musical compositions.
Known for her contributions to Kashmiri folk and light music, Shazia has remained a prominent figure in the cultural landscape of Jammu and Kashmir and has won appreciation from audiences across the region.
Meanwhile, Dr. Rafeeq Masoodi, IBS, former Secretary of the Cultural Academy Jammu and Kashmir and Patron of Adbi Markaz Kamraz, congratulated Shazia Hamid on the achievement.
He described the award as a matter of pride for the artistic community of Jammu and Kashmir and expressed hope that Shazia would receive many more prestigious recognitions at the national and international levels in the years ahead. (JKNS)
