Srinagar, Jun 6 (JKNS): In an unprecedented push to promote fitness, sporting excellence and a drug-free society, the Directorate of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) has intensified its Union Territory-wide sports and wellness campaign, engaging thousands of students and young athletes in competitive events, fitness programmes and anti-drug awareness activities across Jammu and Kashmir.

Directorate of Youth Services and Sports today witnessed overwhelming participation across Jammu and Kashmir.

These extensive activities are being organized under the supervision of Commissioner Secretary to Government, Department of Youth Services and Sports, Dr. Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, and the direct guidance of Director General, Anuradha Gupta.

The department’s robust strategy successfully blends competitive athletics with wellness campaigns under the Fit India Movement and Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, channeling youth energy towards health, discipline and character building.

High-octane competitive events reached their peak across multiple districts on Friday.

In Doda, the third day of the Inter-Zonal District Level Tournament saw Zone Bhaderwah emerge victorious over Zone Assar in a thrilling Under-17 Kabaddi final, alongside competitive cycling events involving participants from ten zones.

In Jammu, the Inter-Zonal Under-14 Cricket Tournament concluded with Jammu Zone scoring 142 runs to defeat Bhalwal Zone by 25 runs in the final, showcasing exceptional talent and teamwork among young cricketers.

Meanwhile, the mega Inter-Zonal District Level Athletics Meet commenced at Sports Stadium Budgam, drawing hundreds of athletes from all twelve zones to compete in various track and field events for higher-level selections.

Simultaneously, a large-scale health and anti-drug awareness campaign witnessed significant participation across the Union Territory.

In Poonch, around 230 players participated in fitness activities, while nearly 2,230 students and sports enthusiasts joined anti-drug awareness sessions and environmental pledge programmes under the Nasha Mukt Bharat campaign, reaffirming their commitment towards healthy and responsible lifestyles.

In Ramban, extensive stretching and physical conditioning sessions focusing on posture, balance and flexibility were conducted across various educational institutions to promote long-term wellness and stress management.

Similarly, in Shopian, fitness, stretching and yoga programmes were organized at BHSS Shopian, GHSS Shopian, HS Handew, UPS Chrimargh and Sports Stadium Wathoo across Zones Shopian, Imamsahib and Keegam to strengthen awareness against drug abuse and encourage healthy living.

Through these coordinated initiatives, the Directorate of Youth Services and Sports reiterated its commitment to providing quality sporting platforms for young athletes, fostering a vibrant sports culture and building a healthier, fitter and drug-free society across Jammu and Kashmir. (JKNS)
