Jammu, June 2 (JKNS): Jammu and Kashmir is set to host its first-ever International Film Festival from September 7 to 11 this year, with participation expected from leading Bollywood and Hollywood personalities, filmmakers, producers and actors from across the globe, official sources said.

Sources told news agency JKNS that the event, titled International Film Festival of Jammu and Kashmir (IFFJK), will be organised in collaboration with the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC), with the Jammu and Kashmir Government expected to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) shortly to formalise the partnership.

According to sources, the inaugural and closing ceremonies are scheduled to be held at Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre, while several prominent tourist destinations, including Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Sonamarg, Bhaderwah and Jammu, are being considered as venues for film screenings. A final decision on locations will be taken by an organising committee to be constituted by the Government.

Sources said the five-day festival is expected to feature screenings of acclaimed films from across the world and provide a platform for interaction between filmmakers, artists and audiences. The event is projected to cost around Rs 20.75 crore, with budgetary provisions already made for its conduct.

Officials believe the festival will help revive Jammu and Kashmir’s long-standing association with the film industry, particularly the Kashmir Valley, which was once among the most preferred destinations for Bollywood productions. The Government also expects the event to boost tourism, showcase the region’s scenic beauty and send a positive message of peace and normalcy to the global film fraternity.

The festival is scheduled to take place shortly after the conclusion of the annual Shri Amarnath Yatra, which will be held from July 3 to August 28. Sources said a detailed programme, including screening schedules, participating films and guest lists, will be finalised after consultations between the Government and NFDC. (JKNS)
