Baramulla, May 12 (JKNS): The Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday said that more than two lakh outreach programmes have been conducted across Jammu and Kashmir under the ongoing anti-drug campaign, while asserting that the government is committed to dismantling the entire narcotics network and saving the youth from the menace of drugs.

Addressing a mega Padyatra and awareness programme against drug abuse in Baramulla, the Lieutenant Governor, as per news agency JKNS, congratulated the District Administration Baramulla and Jammu and Kashmir Police for actively conducting awareness campaigns and anti-drug initiatives across the district.

The Lieutenant Governor said that the government’s aim is to disrupt the entire drug supply chain from every ward and every Panchayat across Jammu and Kashmir. “The campaign has reached every corner and now the focus is to completely break the drug network operating across the Union Territory,” he said.

LG Sinha said that youth trapped in drug addiction must be brought back into normal life through proper rehabilitation and support. “Those who have fallen victim to drugs need care, rehabilitation and employment opportunities so that they can rebuild their lives with dignity,” he said.

He said that for the last 30 days, different anti-drug programmes and awareness drives have been organised in various areas and the campaign has already succeeded in significantly disrupting the narcotics network across Jammu and Kashmir.

The Lieutenant Governor also warned strict action against drug peddlers and absconders involved in narcotics trade. He said measures like cancellation of passports, financial scrutiny, vehicle de-registration, lookout notices and attachment of properties linked to drug trafficking would be intensified.

“Now no more children should die due to drugs. Our youth must be protected at any cost,” the Lieutenant Governor said while urging religious scholars, civil society members and the public to actively support the Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir campaign.

He further appealed to people to report any information related to drug peddling or laxity in anti-drug operations, saying public participation remains crucial in eliminating the menace completely from society. (JKNS)
