Tagore Hall Hosts Grand Cultural Tribute Marking 150 Years of ‘Vande Mataram’ & World Theatre Day

Srinagar, Mar 27 (JKNS): Celebrating the 150th anniversary of the national song Vande Mataram and in connection with World Theatre Day, an impressive cultural function was organised today at Tagore Hall, Srinagar.

The event was graced by Joint Director Information Kashmir, Syed Shahnawaz Bukhari; Additional Secretary JKAACL, Ideel Saleem; Cultural Officer Kashmir, Burhan Hussain; Deputy Secretary JKAACL, Shakeel-ur-Rehman; eminent theatre director and actor Dr Ayash Arif; and several noted cultural activists.

The programme commenced with a soulful live performance of Vande Mataram by Dr Bilal and his group from IMFA, Kashmir University. This was followed by a patriotic dance performance by the Sounzal Art and Culture Group led by Gulzar Bhat, which received warm applause from the audience.

A major highlight of the event was Tcshai, a powerful theatre production addressing drug abuse, presented by Kalidas Theatre. The play, directed by Dr Ayash Arif, left a strong impression on the audience with its compelling narrative and impactful performances.

The proceedings of the event were conducted by noted host and broadcaster Syed Shakeel Shan. In his welcome address, he emphasised the importance of national spirit and patriotism in contemporary society.

 

Speaking on the occasion, Additional Secretary JKAACL Ideel Saleem, in his vote of thanks, appreciated the artists for effectively portraying themes of unity, integrity and patriotism through their performances.

The event was organised by the Jammu & Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (JKAACL) in collaboration with the Department of Information and Public Relations, J&K. Students from various schools also attended the programme, adding youthful enthusiasm to the occasion. (JKNS)
