Jammu, Mar 6 (JKNS): Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA), IT, Transport, Youth Services & Sports, Satish Sharma, on Friday reiterated the need for the restoration of Statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, stating that it is essential for strengthening democratic institutions, empowering people and accelerating development across the Union Territory.

The Minister made these remarks while addressing the gathering at the opening ceremony and trophy/jersey unveiling of the YSS–JKSC Cricket League at M.A. Stadium, Jammu, organized by the Department of Youth Services & Sports in collaboration with the J&K Sports Council.

While speaking on the occasion, Satish Sharma emphasized that sports play a vital role in shaping the character of youth and promoting discipline, teamwork and unity.

He said that the government is committed to providing better sports infrastructure and opportunities to the young talent of Jammu and Kashmir so that they can excel at national and international platforms.

Reiterating his stand on the political aspirations of the people, the Minister said that the restoration of Statehood to Jammu and Kashmir remains an important step towards ensuring greater democratic empowerment and administrative efficiency. He expressed confidence that the legitimate aspirations of the people would be fulfilled.

Satish Sharma also congratulated the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Team for creating history by winning the Ranji Trophy, describing it as a proud and inspirational moment for the entire region. He said the remarkable achievement has showcased the immense talent and determination of J&K’s cricketers and has placed the region firmly on the national cricketing map.

“The historic Ranji Trophy victory is not just a sporting achievement but a symbol of the resilience, dedication and potential of our youth,” the Minister said, adding that such milestones inspire thousands of young players across Jammu and Kashmir to pursue sports with passion and commitment.

The Minister further stated that initiatives like the YSS–JKSC Cricket League provide an excellent platform for budding cricketers to showcase their talent and gain competitive exposure. He urged young players to remain focused, work hard and bring laurels to the region.

Senior officials of the Department of Youth Services & Sports, representatives of the J&K Sports Council, coaches, players and sports enthusiasts were present on the occasion.

The event also witnessed the unveiling of the official trophy and jerseys of the league, marking the formal beginning of the tournament aimed at promoting grassroots cricket and nurturing sporting talent across Jammu and Kashmir. (JKNS)
