Srinagar Police Secures 14-Year Conviction in POCSO Case

Srinagar, Feb 2 (JKNS): Srinagar Police has secured conviction in a Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) case, with the court awarding 14 years of rigorous imprisonment to the accused.

In a statement issued here to news agency JKNS, Srinagar Police has secured conviction in case FIR No. 24/2021 registered at Police Station M.R. Gunj, Srinagar, under sections 363, 376 IPC read with section 4 of the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act.

The case pertains to the kidnapping and sexual assault of a minor girl, aged 17 years, reported on 11.04.2021. Acting swiftly, Srinagar Police conducted a thorough investigation, recovered the victim, recorded statements of witnesses, collected evidence and ensured medical and forensic examination as per proper legal procedures, it reads.

Upon completion of investigation, charge-sheet was filed before the Hon’ble Fast Track Court (POCSO), Srinagar.

After a detailed trial, the Hon’ble Court found the accused guilty beyond reasonable doubt, it reads.

On 30.12.2025, the Hon’ble Court convicted the accused and sentenced him to 14 years of imprisonment along with a fine of ₹15,000, it reads.

Srinagar Police reiterates its zero-tolerance policy towards crimes against women and children and remains committed to ensuring justice for victims through prompt and professional investigation. (JKNS)
