Light Rain, Snow Likely at Higher Reaches; Director MET

Srinagar, Jan 31 (JKNS): The Meteorological Department Srinagar on Saturday forecast light rain and snowfall at higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir over the coming days, with generally cloudy weather expected at many places.

Director Meteorological Department (MET), Dr Mukhtar Ahmad, as per news agency JKNS, said that on January 31, light rain or snow is likely at a few higher reaches towards night. He said February 1 will witness generally cloudy conditions with light rain or snowfall over higher reaches, accompanied by thunder and gusty winds at many places.

According to the forecast, February 2 is likely to see light rain or snow at a few higher reaches towards night, while February 3 will remain generally cloudy with light rain or snowfall at scattered to many places.

Weather from February 4 to 6 is expected to remain partly cloudy till evening of February 6, while February 7 may again see generally cloudy conditions with light rain or snow at a few places. From February 8 to 10, the weather is likely to remain generally dry.

Meanwhile, the MET department has issued an advisory urging travellers and transporters to confirm road and highway status from the concerned traffic authorities and strictly follow administrative advisories.

Farmers have been advised to suspend farm operations during the next seven days, while people living in snow-bound higher reaches have been cautioned against venturing into sloppy and avalanche-prone areas. (JKNS)
