Srinagar, Jan 30 (JKNS): Residents of Buchwara, Dalgate, have appealed to the government to grant permission for renovating damaged buildings after strong gusty winds earlier this month caused damage to several residential structures in the area.

A group of local residents, while speaking to news agency JKNS, said the damage has rendered many houses unsafe and urged the government to allow them to carry out necessary repairs.

“The winds were very strong and caused serious damage to our homes. We want permission to repair the structures before the situation worsens,” said Hilal Ahmad, a resident.

Another local said that even minor repairs are not possible without official approval, adding that families are living in constant fear and must be granted permission at the earliest.

When contacted, an official from the Lakes, Conservation and Management Authority (LCMA) told JKNS that the department has been receiving several representations from different areas.

“We are getting many applications regarding renovation permissions. People can directly submit their applications to the office of the Vice Chairman, LCMA, and we will examine each case as per norms,” the official said.

It is pertinent to mention that on January 22, heavy gusty winds swept across the Kashmir Valley, disrupting power supply and damaging residential structures in several areas, leaving many families in distress. (JKNS)
