Drug Menace Hit Hard: Sopore Police Nab Two Peddlers, Recover Poppy Straw at Busy Main Chowk

Sopore, Jan 21 (JKNS): In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Sopore Police arrested two alleged drug peddlers during a naka checking operation near the Municipal Council building at Sopore’s Main Chowk and recovered poppy straw from their possession.

The swift action comes as part of the police’s intensified campaign to curb the narcotics trade and safeguard the youth from the growing menace of drugs.

In a statement issued here to news agency JKNS, During naka checking, a battery-operated auto bearing registration number JK01BA-8171, coming from Iqbal Market towards Main Chowk, Sopore, was stopped for checking. Upon search, poppy straw-like substance was recovered from the possession of the auto driver and another person travelling in the vehicle.

The accused have been identified as Sabzaar Ahmad Sheikh, S/O Ghulam Nabi Sheikh, R/O Kathidarwaza Rainawari, A/P Doglitang Sopore (driver), and Manzoor Ahmad Sofi @ Man Dab, S/O Bashir Ahmad Sofi, R/O Neharpora Sopore.

Accordingly, FIR No. 19/2026 under relevant sections of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Sopore and both the accused persons have been arrested in the case.

Further investigation is underway to trace the source and wider network involved.

Sopore Police reiterate their zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking and reaffirm their commitment to sustained enforcement to protect youth and society from the menace of drugs. The general public is urged to actively cooperate and join the fight against drug peddling in Sopore. (JKNS)
