Officials said the fire broke out in a U-shaped, double-storeyed showroom-cum-godown built with a pucca wooden structure and GCI sheets. Multiple business establishments were functioning from the premises, which was also being used to store a variety of goods. The blaze caused extensive damage to the structure, including flooring, furnishings and stored material.

They said 37 nearby residential sheds made of wooden frames, tarpaulin and GCI sheets were also engulfed, resulting in heavy loss to household items and scrap material kept inside.

A motorcycle bearing registration number JK05F-9233 was also damaged in the incident. Portions of a transport company’s wooden structure sustained partial damage, while several stored items were affected by the fire.

The firefighting operation was conducted under the leadership of Deputy Director Fire and Emergency Services Dr Mir Aqib Hussain and Mobilising Officer Aijaz Ahmad Shah, under the direct supervision of ADGP Fire and Emergency Services Alok Kumar.

During the operation, a fire tender from Fire Station Rawalpora suffered damage after its front windshield was reportedly broken by locals upon arrival at the spot.

The cause of the fire is being investigated. Officials said swift action by firefighting teams helped contain the blaze and prevented it from spreading to adjacent areas. (JKNS)
