Over 536 cyber fraud complaints, 23 OGWs booked, terror properties attached, massive seizures against drugs, crime and online propaganda

Bandipora, Dec 31 (JKNS): Bandipora Police delivered a strong year-end performance in 2025 by intensifying action against drug peddling, cyber-enabled financial frauds, illegal mining, theft and the terror ecosystem, recording measurable gains across enforcement, recovery and preventive policing.

The district police registered dozens of major cases, arrested scores of offenders, recovered lakhs in fraud amounts, seized hundreds of vehicles and attached terror-linked properties, reflecting a sustained and zero-tolerance approach towards crime and anti-national activities.

Data shared by District police Bandipora as per news agency JKNS, During the year 2025, Bandipora Police carried out sustained and result-oriented operations against drug peddling, illegal mining, cyber-enabled financial frauds, the terror ecosystem, and other criminal activities, thereby ensuring enhanced public safety and strengthening the rule of law across the district.

In the domain of cybercrime and financial fraud, Bandipora Police received 536 complaints related to cyber-enabled financial fraud during the year.

Due to prompt intervention and effective coordination, an amount of approximately ₹35.67 lakh was timely saved from being further siphoned off through various cyber fraud modes, while ₹20.58 lakh already defrauded was successfully recovered/retrieved during investigation and enquiry.

Furthermore, 52 lost/stolen mobile phones reported on the CEIR Portal, valued at about 07 Lakhs, were successfully recovered and handed over to owners after completion of legal formalities.

As part of its intensified anti-narcotics drive, Bandipora Police registered 40 NDPS cases during the year and arrested 43 drug peddlers. Recoveries included 97 kilograms of cannabis and its derivatives, 2,233 Spasmoproxyvon tablets, 319 Codeine Phosphate bottles, and 33 grams of Brown Sugar.

Additionally, four vehicles and two residential houses belonging to drug peddlers were attached/seized under the provisions of the NDPS Act, with an estimated market value of approximately ₹37 lakh.

Further, four notorious drug peddlers were booked under the PIT NDPS Act, reflecting a zero-tolerance policy against narcotics trafficking.

To curb illegal mining, the Bandipora Police registered 29 FIRs, arrested 29 persons, and seized 29 vehicles involved in the illegal extraction and transportation of minerals.

Moreover, during joint raids conducted with the Mining Department, 307 vehicles were seized, and a fine amounting to ₹47.06 lakh was imposed and realised as per law.

Action against the terror ecosystem remained a top priority. During the year, 23 Over Ground Workers (OGWs) were booked under UAPA provisions. Further, 61 kanals and 06 marlas of land belonging to an absconding terror accused operating from Pakistan were attached. In addition, 01 kanal and 18.5 marlas of land identified as terror proceeds were also attached following due legal procedures.

Cyber surveillance and patrolling were significantly enhanced to counter fake narratives and online propaganda. As a result, five cases were registered, and 91 social media handles involved in spreading fake narratives and propaganda were blocked.

Action against burglary and theft cases also remained a focus area. Out of five stolen vehicles, four were successfully recovered. Besides, approximately 62% of stolen property was recovered during the investigation of theft and burglary cases.

Bandipora Police also conducted numerous outreach and awareness programmes focusing on drug abuse prevention, cybercrime awareness, and community policing. The police remained at the forefront of humanitarian assistance, especially during adverse weather conditions such as snowfall and rainfall.

Recently, Bandipora Police successfully rescued two persons during the intervening night of 15/16-12-2025, who had become trapped in the middle of the lake due to a fault in their boat.

Bandipora Police reaffirmed its commitment to continue focused enforcement, community engagement, and preventive measures to ensure peace, security, and safety of the people of the district. (JKNS)
