Kashmir in Deep Freeze: Srinagar Hits -3.2°C, Shopian Coldest at -5.1°C

Srinagar, Nov 24 (JKNS): The Kashmir valley continues to be gripped by cold and chilly temperatures while summer capital witnessed the coldest night of the season as temperatures dipped to minus 3.2°C on Sunday, the Meteorological Department said on Monday.

As per details available with news agency JKNS, the minimum temperature in Srinagar settled at -3.2°C, while Pahalgam recorded -4.0°C and Gulmarg registered -1.9°C. South Kashmir remained the coldest, with Pulwama dipping to -5.0°C and Shopian touching -5.1°C. Higher reaches including Zojila continued to remain extremely cold at -16.0°C.

North and Central Kashmir also recorded sharp drops in temperature. Kupwara stood at -3.2°C, Budgam at -3.4°C, and Baramulla recorded -4.6°C. Pampore dipped to -4.5°C, while Awantipora and Sonamarg both settled at -3.2°C. The Srinagar Airport area also recorded intense cold at -3.6°C.

In the Jammu region, night temperatures varied significantly across plains and hilly areas. Jammu city recorded 10.0°C, while Katra and Kathua stood at 9.2°C. Higher regions remained much colder with Banihal dropping to -1.2°C, Bhaderwah at 0.5°C, and Rajouri settling at 3.3°C.

Ladakh continued to face severe cold conditions. Leh recorded -8.2°C and Kargil dipped further to -8.6°C. Drass recorded -10.3°C, while Nyoma was colder at -11.8°C. Nubra and Padum remained deeply frozen at -6.6°C and -9.3°C respectively.

The MET Department has forecast mostly dry weather conditions across Kashmir in the coming days with sub-zero night temperatures expected to continue. Partly cloudy weather has been predicted for December 2 and 3, which may lead to a slight rise in night temperatures, though no major change in overall cold conditions is expected. (JKNS)
