Srinagar, Oct 29: (JKNS) The Kashmir Music Club Srinagar has expressed deep concern over the reported denial of permission to a member of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly to speak in Kashmiri, one of the official languages of the Union Territory and the essence of its cultural identity.

Chairman Waheed Jeelani said that such a decision is both disappointing and disheartening, as it undermines the dignity of a language that carries the spirit and soul of the Kashmiri people. “To silence one’s mother tongue is to silence a part of our collective heritage,” he said.

The Club has urged the Hon’ble Speaker and the Government to ensure proper arrangements, including translator services, so that members may express themselves in Kashmiri without restriction. Jeelani emphasized that the preservation and respect for the Kashmiri language must be seen as a shared cultural responsibility.

“Kashmiri is not merely a means of communication; it is the melody of our identity and the language of our heart,” he added. (JKNS)
