As per news agency JKNS, The proposal was tabled during the ongoing session of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, but Chief Minister Omar Abdullah opposed it, stating that individuals living illegally on government land cannot be granted ownership rights. He emphasized that the government is making concerted efforts to provide land to landless families through proper legal channels.

“The government is committed to ensuring that land distribution is fair, transparent, and in accordance with the law,” Abdullah said.

The Chief Minister reportedly urged Parra to withdraw the bill, but the legislator refused to comply. Following this, Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather formally rejected the bill in the Assembly.

The move has sparked discussions among legislators over land rights, legality, and welfare measures, highlighting the delicate balance between addressing public grievances and maintaining legal compliance. —(JKNS)
