Handwara, Oct 8 (JKNS): In a commendable initiative to promote road safety and traffic discipline, Villgam Police under Handwara Police organized a Traffic Awareness Programme today at Main Chowk Tarathpora Ramhall. In collaboration with the Government Boys Higher Secondary School Tarathpora. The programme was led by Sub-Inspector Irfan Yaqoob, accompanied by other officers from the Villgam Police Station. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, teachers, and local residents. During the programme, students were educated about the importance of following traffic rules, the necessity of wearing seat belts while driving, and using helmets while riding two-wheelers. The officers emphasized that safe driving not only protects individuals but also safeguards the lives of others on the road. As part of the drive, police personnel conducted on-the-spot vehicle checks, ensuring strict enforcement of traffic laws. Two-wheelers without helmets, vehicles without valid driving licenses, and those found overloaded were challaned on the spot. Several vehicles found violating safety norms were also seized immediately. Speaking to our correspondent, Sub-Inspector Irfan Yaqoob made it clear that no leniency will be shown toward underage drivers. He stated, “Any minor found driving a vehicle will face strict legal action. Their parents will also be held accountable. I strongly appeal to parents not to hand over vehicles to their underage children.” The programme also focused on educating participants about traffic signs, pedestrian safety, and road discipline. The students actively interacted with police officials, raising awareness about collective responsibility in maintaining road safety. This initiative reflects the dedication of Handwara Police towards ensuring public safety and fostering a culture of awareness and responsibility among citizens, especially the youth. Reaffirming their commitment, the Handwara Police stated that such awareness programmes will continue across the region to promote lawful driving habits and prevent road mishaps. At the conclusion of the event, Sub-Inspector Irfan Yaqoob and Master Irshad Rashid spoke exclusively to our correspondent, emphasizing the need for community cooperation and parental responsibility in shaping a safer traffic culture.
