Srinagar : The University of Kashmir (KU) has achieved significant recognition in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2025, securing the 34th rank in the University Category, a notable improvement from its previous 45th position in 2024.
In the Overall Category, KU has risen to 59th place, up from 69th last year, and it ranks 8th among State Public Universities (SPUs) in India, underscoring its status as a top-tier institution. KU is the only university from Jammu & Kashmir to be listed among the top 50 universities nationally. This year’s advancements are attributed to enhanced performance in Research and Professional Practices (RP), where KU’s score increased significantly. The Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) sub-parameter saw a remarkable rise, indicating a growing focus on innovation and technology-driven research. Additionally, the Teaching, Learning and Resources (TLR) parameter also showed improvement, reflecting KU’s commitment to high-quality education and digital learning initiatives. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nilofer Khan expressed gratitude to the university community and leadership for their contributions to this achievement, emphasizing the collective effort to enhance academic standards and research output. Other university officials highlighted the importance of a robust academic ecosystem, active student engagement, and the integration of research and digital resources in driving KU’s upward trajectory. In May 2025, KU also received a prestigious NAAC A++ grade, marking a historic achievement as the first higher education institution in Jammu & Kashmir to be assessed under the revised NAAC framework.
