JAMMU: Commissioner State Taxes, Jammu and Kashmir, P.K. Bhat today chaired a comprehensive review meeting with State Tax Officers (STOs) of the Jammu Division today here as a precursor to second quarter of the financial year 2025-26.
The meeting, held at the Excise and Taxation Complex here, focused on assessing departmental performance, addressing challenges and discussed strategies for enhanced revenue collection and tax compliance.
The meeting was attended by Additional Commissioner, State Taxes Administration & Enforcement, Jammu, Namrita Dogra along with State Tax Officers from all circles of the Jammu division. The outer circle officers joined the meeting through virtual mode.
Commissioner Bhat, during the meeting, emphasized on the critical role of the State Taxes department in strengthening financial discipline and boosting revenue to meet the fiscal targets for 2025-26. He directed officers to aim for a significant revenue hike by adopting proactive measures and leveraging technology to curb tax evasion.
“Our goal is to ensure robust tax compliance while fostering a business-friendly environment. We must utilize every tool at our disposal to achieve these objectives,” he stated.
Bhat also highlighted the need to crack down on dormant dealers, ensure timely filing of returns and monitor Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) payments.
He instructed officers to intensify field inspections, particularly in cash-heavy sectors like banquet halls, catering services, and retail, to ensure compliance with GST regulations.
The Commissioner stressed the importance of scrutinizing E-Way Bills to prevent revenue leakage and urged officers to harness GST Prime and BIU for real-time data analysis and monitoring of high-risk sectors, including cement, iron, and mobile industries, where tax violations are more likely to occur.
During meeting, key discussions also centred around optimizing the use of technological tools such as GST Prime, E-Way Bills, and Business Intelligence Unit (BIU) to identify and address tax defaulters effectively.
Additional Commissioner, Jammu Namrita Dogra presented a detailed circle-wise performance analysis, identifying areas for improvement and outlining actionable strategies for the remaining quarters.
The session concluded with a renewed commitment from the officers to implement the Commissioner’s directives with vigour and dedication. The department reaffirmed its resolve to strengthen tax administration, enhance revenue collection, and create deterrence among tax defaulters through technology-driven enforcement and strategic oversight.
