The highlight was the Largest Ladishah Folk performance by 20000 youth and simultaneous Kashmiri Calligraphy writing by 18350 youth of Baramulla, setting not one but two World Records.

“We have been rehearsing for almost a month. Now we feel all the effort was worth it. This is a great achievement and we are proud to be part of the world record,” said Zubair Mir one of the young participants.

In addition to the main venue at Prof Showket Ali Indoor Stadium, the event was also conducted simultaneously at 162 locations throughout the district, streamed live to the audience, ensuring widespread participation and engagement. This inclusive approach allowed communities across the valley to join in the festivities, fostering a sense of shared celebration.

Hon’ble Lt Governor of UT of J & K, Shri Manoj Sinha was the Chief Guest. Speaking on the occasion, the Hon’ble LG congratulated the youth of Baramulla for this historic achievement and said “The Indian Army remains closely connected with the people of Kashmir and actively supports the preservation of their heritage and traditions.

The Army and District Administration has worked alongside the community, contributing to the empowerment, education, skilling, infrastructure development and continuation of cultural practices and values, demonstrating a commitment to the region’s cultural legacy, while also guarding the nation’s borders and maintaining peace and promoting development in the hinterland. “
The District Administration, led by Shri Minga Sherpa, DC, ensured the smooth execution of the event.

Shri Brij Mohan Sharma, Principle Secretary (Culture), Shri Vijay Kumar Bidhuri, Divisional Commissioner, Srinagar from the J&K Government, Police, NGOs and Civil Society were also present at the historic event and encouraged the participants.

This record-breaking event was adjudicated by the Universal Records Forum, an ISO 9001:2015 certified organization, compliant to Guinness records standards, which highlights its commitment to maintaining quality management standards.

This certification ensures that URF adheres to rigorous processes and standards in its operations, including record verification and adjudication.

The Cultural Fest served as a vibrant display of Kashmiri artistry and talent from renowned local artistes. Attendees had the privilege of witnessing remarkable performances and celebrating the rich cultural heritage of Kashmir. Mr. Touseef Raina, Youth Leader from Baramulla commented, “Kashmiri culture is a melting pot of diversity and faith, but today’s youth show declining interest because it is not fashionable. The initiative of the army and district authorities has revived interest in our age-old traditions.”

Ladishah, a form of musical storytelling that combines humour and satire to address social and political issues, has been revitalized by Social Media performers like Syed Areej Safvi, Kashmir’s first female Ladishah, who has brought this tradition to a modern audience through YouTube.
The success of “Kashur Riwaaj 2025” has set another benchmark for future cultural engagements in the region, uniting the youth of Kashmir in a display of tradition and patriotism. (JKNS)
