Bandipora, July 01 (KNS): Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) North Kashmir incharge, Wajahat Hussain Raina, on Tuesday inaugurated a district-level Night Volleyball Tournament at Gundpora Rampora village in Bandipora, amid an enthusiastic gathering of players and supporters.

The event, being played under floodlights, is organized by the Volleyball Association Bandipora, which is officially registered with the Jammu & Kashmir Sports Council.

A large number of youth, local residents, and party workers, particularly young SBSP supporters participated in the vibrant opening ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, Wajahat Hussain Raina lauded the organizers for hosting such a dynamic and purposeful sporting event in rural Kashmir.

He said that sports serve not only as a medium of physical development but also as a powerful deterrent against the rising drug menace threatening Kashmiri youth.

“This is not just a tournament, but a declaration of hope, energy, and resilience by the youth of Bandipora. Sports empower minds, keep our youth away from social evils, and build a healthier, stronger society,” Raina said.

He urged authorities and civil society to replicate such initiatives across Jammu & Kashmir to positively engage the youth.

“While governance and policies are vital, social transformation comes when young people are given the opportunity to lead through sports, education, and skill development,” he added.

The tournament features participation from several village teams across Bandipora, with matches being played in a disciplined and spirited atmosphere under night lighting, drawing crowds of excited spectators.

Organizers said the tournament will continue over the coming days, concluding in a grand finale expected to be attended by sports officials, local dignitaries, and district administration.

President of the Volleyball Association Bandipora, expressing gratitude to Raina, said: “Our mission is to make Bandipora a hub of sports and shield our youth from drug addiction and despair. Sports is the only grassroots solution to build resilience and restore hope.”

Local residents praised the tournament as a major boost for youth engagement and a meaningful step toward fostering unity, discipline, and community spirit through sports. (KNS)
