Bandipora, June 21 (JKNS): The Principal Sessions Court, Bandipora, announced its judgment in the long‑pending 2002 firing case, bringing a 22‑year‑long trial to a close.

Details available with news agency JKNS stated that the case arose out of a deeply tragic and grievous incident in Garoora, Bandipora, in 2002, when Haji Ghulam Nabi Ganai and Assistant Sub‑Inspector Ghulam Rasool were killed in a shooting incident. The matter, marked by a complex evidentiary record and high public sensitivity, remained pending at the final argument stage for nearly 12 years despite the evidence being completed as early as 2013.

Recognising the significance of the case for both public confidence and institutional responsibility, the court prioritised its revival and expeditious conclusion. A detailed examination of the voluminous record and procedural history was undertaken to ensure that the matter was adjudicated with due care, rigour, and fairness.

On 21st June 2025, after a meticulous review of the evidence and consideration of the submissions advanced, the court pronounced its final judgment, acquitting the accused persons of all charges, details stated.

The court held that the prosecution had failed to establish the case beyond a reasonable doubt, bringing an end to one of the longest trials in Bandipora’s judicial history. (JKNS)
