Srinagar: In a testament to the department’s commitment to excellence in academics, research, and patient care Department of Urology at Superspeciality Hospital, GMC Srinagar, has achieved a historic quadruple milestone, solidifying its position as a premier urology center in North India.
The department’s academic triumph is marked by the graduation of its inaugural batch of MCh Urology specialists. Under the guidance of Prof. Syed Sajjad Nazir, the program has set new standards in surgical training, establishing the department as a center of excellence in urology education.
The team’s national glory is evident in their double honors at Urolithicon 2023, Kolkata, showcasing their academic and clinical expertise. This achievement brings national recognition to J&K and highlights the department’s capabilities.
The department’s surgical excellence is demonstrated by Prof. Nazir’s live demonstration of Retrograde Intrarenal Surgery (RIRS) at AIIMS Bathinda, where they secured 3rd prize at NZUSICON’s 360° Urolithiasis conference. This achievement showcases the department’s innovative approach to urology.
The clinical revolution achieved by the department is the successful revival of live related kidney transplants, with the first case performed under Ayushman Bharat coverage. This milestone makes advanced care accessible to all, further solidifying the department’s position as a leader in urology.
The leadership team, headed by Prof. Iffat Hassan, Principal & Dean, include M Ashraf Hakak, Administrator, GMC Srinagar; Prof. Syed Sajjad Nazir, HoD Urology & Renal Transplantation and Dr. Rubina Shaheeb, Medical Superintendent. The active support of the deptt of anesthesiology & critical care made the successful surgical interventions possible smoothly.
These achievements establish the department as a leading urology training center, a hub for innovative surgeries, a destination for kidney transplantation, and a champion of accessible healthcare under Ayushman Bharat.
