Jammu: Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Thursday said direct train service between Jammu and Srinagar would commence in September this year.
Speaking to reporters at Katra on his arrival a day before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to flag off Katra-Srinagar train, Ashwini said that work on Jammu Railway station is on.
“The work is expected to be completed by September. With the availability of platform 5 and 6, Vande Bharat trains will run between Jammu and Srinagar directly,” he added.
He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s political will led to the completion of the Udhampur-Baramulla-Srinagar Railway link (USBRL) project, which would connect Kashmir with the rest of the country.
Vaishnaw said the 1.3-km highest railway bridge in the world over the Chenab River forms a crucial link in the 111-km stretch from Katra to Banihal. UNI
