Driver’s License Suspended for Dangerous Driving Inside Chenani-Nashri Tunnel

Kishtwar: Authorities in Kishtwar have suspended the driving license of a local resident for reckless and dangerous driving inside the Chenani-Nashri Tunnel.

Assistant Regional Transport Officer Kishtwar Tasleem Javaid, in an order a copy of which lies with news agency JKNS ordered the suspension of driving license No. JK17 20230000894 issued to Esar Asif, a resident of Tund, Kishtwar, following a viral video showing him overtaking from the wrong side and endangering passenger safety on June 2, 2025.

The ARTO cited violations under Section 19(1)(d) and (f) of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, along with Rule 21 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, which mandates a minimum three-month suspension for such offenses.

The order noted that the incident not only breached traffic laws but also posed a serious threat to public safety. “Such behaviour inside a high-speed tunnel puts lives at grave risk,” the order read.

The violator has been directed to deposit the suspended license immediately at the ARTO office. (JKNS)
