Karnah, Kupwara – Leader of Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory, Sunil Sharma, on Saturday visited multiple villages in the Karnah sector near the Line of Control to assess the widespread destruction caused by recent Pakistani shelling following Operation Sindoor.

Accompanied by senior leaders, Sharma toured several severely affected areas, including Bhatpora, where six houses were completely gutted; Hajinar, where a newlywed bride (dulhan) lost all her belongings; Triboni, where one house was reduced to ashes; and Shamaspora and Baghbella, where hundreds of houses sustained partial damage. He met with the affected families, assured them of all possible support, and emphasized the BJP’s commitment to border residents.

In a press interaction during the visit, Sharma stated, “The restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood is the sole prerogative of the Parliament and the Bharatiya Janata Party, not regional parties like the National Conference (NC) or the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).”

He urged the public not to be misled by hollow promises from regional parties, adding, “NC and PDP have no role in the return of statehood. People should instead demand basic facilities like free electricity, additional ration, and subsidised LPG from them.”

Sharma reaffirmed that the BJP government stands with the people of Jammu and Kashmir and is committed to providing comprehensive support to those affected by cross-border aggression.

Meanwhile, UT BJP President Satpal Sharma also held a press conference in Karnah, condemning the unprovoked shelling and vowing to strengthen border infrastructure to ensure the safety and well-being of civilians.
