Jammu: Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Sachin Kumar Vaishya, convened a review meeting Wednesday to assess the operations of the Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Department.
The meeting was attended by Sub Divisional Magistrates, Chief Planning Officer Uttam Singh and Assistant Directors Santosh Kumar and Haroon Rashid Naik.
The meeting focussed on enhancing efficiency and transparency of the food distribution system.
The Deputy Commissioner emphasised the importance of adhering to standard operating procedures throughout the supply chain, from godowns to end beneficiaries, and mandated inspections of annual records to ensure compliance.
The Deputy Commissioner highlighted the necessity for surprise inspections of dealerships by Sub Divisional Magistrates and FCS&CA teams to verify the display of rate lists and to prevent the misuse of domestic LPG cylinders in commercial activities. Other operational areas under review included the status of Direct Benefit Transfers, Aadhaar seeding, eKYC status and other standard activities.
Further, the Deputy Commissioner directed that the quality and delivery of Mid-Day Meals and food supplies to Anganwadis be closely monitored. SDMs were assigned specific targets to conduct surprise checks and take immediate action against any irregularities. Strict enforcement measures were also outlined concerning weights and measurements, with a clear directive to identify and prosecute violators.
Additionally, the Deputy Commissioner mandated mill-level scrutiny and thorough cross-checking of records related to ration pickup and delivery. Emphasising accountability, the Deputy Commissioner reiterated that all food and ration distribution must be carried out by licensed individuals only.
