Srinagar, May 22 (JKNS): The Speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Abdul Raheem Rather, has constituted a House Committee to probe alleged irregularities in the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in central Kashmir.
The decision comes in response to growing concerns about financial and administrative mismanagement in the flagship water supply scheme aimed at providing tap water to rural households.
Sources privy to development informed news agency JKNS that the committee held its first meeting today at the Legislative Assembly Complex, Civil Secretariat Srinagar, led by committee chairman MLA Hasnain Masoodi.
Present in the meeting were MLAs Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami, Ali Mohammad Dar, Altaf Ahmad Wani, Ajaz Ahmad Jan, Rajiv Jasrotia, Rambir Singh Pathania, Tanveer Sadiq, Javed Riyaz Bedar, Muzafer Iqbal Khan, Rafiq Ahmad Naik, Arjun Singh Raju, and Iftikhar Ahmad, they said.
The committee is tasked with investigating the execution of projects under the Jal Jeevan Mission, including alleged lapses in fund disbursement, delays in implementation, and technical non-compliance. It will assess official records, conduct inspections, and interact with relevant stakeholders before submitting a detailed report to the Assembly.
It is important to note that Jammu and Kashmir legislative assembly’s last session sparked protests inside the house where ruling National Conference and some opposition members protested against irregularities and demanded house committee to be formed. (JKNS)
