Srinagar: An Indigo flight en route from Delhi to Srinagar experienced a hailstorm mid-air on Wednesday evening, prompting the pilot to declare an emergency to the Srinagar Air Traffic Control (ATC), officials said.

Details available with news agency JKNS stated that Indigo flight 6E2142, bearing registration number VT-IMD, encountered severe turbulence due to a hailstorm while approaching Srinagar. The aircraft was carrying 227 passengers.

“The flight landed safely at Srinagar airport at 6:30 PM. All passengers and aircrew are safe,” an airport official told news agency JKNS.

He added that the aircraft has been declared AOG (Aircraft on Ground) by the airline for technical inspection and maintenance following the weather-related incident. “No injuries were reported, and the situation was promptly handled by air traffic control and emergency response teams,” the official confirmed. (JKNS)
