Srinagar: The Health & Medical Education Department of Jammu and Kashmir has made it mandatory for all doctors and nursing staff working in government medical institutions to register under the Healthcare Professionals Registry (HPR), according to a government circular issued on Wednesday.

As per Circular a copy of which lies with news agency JKNS reads, the HPR, established under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), is a centralized and authenticated digital repository of healthcare professionals from various systems of medicine, including Modern Medicine, Dentistry, Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha, Sowa-Rigpa, Homeopathy, and Nursing. The initiative aims to enable proper integration of qualified professionals into India’s digital health ecosystem through the assignment of a unique Healthcare Professional ID.

The HPR has been envisioned as a practitioner-centric and citizen-centric digital platform that offers features such as a unique and trustworthy digital identity, online presence and discoverability, teleconsultation capability, and access to unified digital health services. The government intends this platform to ensure the creation and maintenance of a verified database of competent and ethically compliant healthcare professionals, thereby expanding healthcare service outreach.

The circular, issued by Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed Shah (IAS), Secretary to the Government, mandates that all Heads of Departments (HODs) and Principals of Government Medical Colleges ensure full registration of all doctors and nursing staff under their administrative and operational control, without any exception. The directive seeks to achieve 100% registration saturation under the HPR.

Furthermore, the HODs and Principals have been directed to supervise and facilitate the registration process for all eligible personnel and to monitor and enforce compliance with the outlined instructions. They are also required to review and report monthly on the progress made towards saturation of registration, identify and rectify any technical or procedural obstacles affecting the process, and execute regular awareness campaigns to disseminate information and promote timely compliance among healthcare professionals.

The circular has been issued to concerned directors, principals, and key officials for strict and immediate implementation. (JKNS)
