Srinagar: In a remarkable story of self-belief and commitment to community welfare, Neelofar Jan, a young science graduate from Kangan, has carved a niche for herself in the healthcare sector by establishing her own eye clinic, NS Eye Care, under the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP).
Situated conveniently near SBI Bank Kangan, the clinic is providing vital eye care services to the residents of the area, many of whom previously had to travel long distances for routine check-ups and treatment.
Neelofar said that despite facing financial limitations, her aspiration to serve the community never wavered. “Access to proper eye care was lacking in our locality. I wanted to change that, and with the support of PMEGP, I could finally bring that dream to life,” she said.
NS Eye Care has now become a go-to centre for eye consultations, vision screening and primary treatment, offering affordable services tailored to the needs of the region’s population. The initiative has also opened up employment opportunities for skilled individuals, further contributing to the local economy.
Neelofar’s entrepreneurial journey highlights the importance of youth-oriented schemes like PMEGP in empowering educated, ambitious individuals in rural areas. Her success story is now inspiring other young women and graduates in Ganderbal and beyond to think beyond traditional career paths and explore self-employment.
As the region continues to grapple with healthcare infrastructure challenges, Neelofar Jan’s contribution stands out as a grassroots solution making real impact. Her clinic not only addresses a pressing medical need but also symbolizes resilience, innovation, and youth empowerment in Jammu and Kashmir
