10 Killed, 33 Injured, Many Critical in Pak Shelling in J&K’s Poonch, Indian Army Responds

Poonch, May 7 (JKNS): In a devastating incident of cross-border shelling, at least 10 civilians lost their lives, and 33 others sustained injuries in Poonch district along the Line of Control (LoC) on Wednesday. The shelling targeted several border villages in the Mendhar and Mankote sectors, while the Indian Army is responding.

Official sources told news agency JKNS that “due to heavy shelling by Pakistani troopers, 10 people have lost their lives, while around 33 people are injured, adding that many of the injured persons are in critical condition. The Indian Army is responding back.”

The injured victims have been shifted to district hospital poonch, where their conditions are being closely monitored. Many of the injured are reported to be in critical condition. Authorities are working on providing immediate relief and have assured full support to the affected families, they said.

The shelling has caused significant damage to property, with several houses in the affected areas destroyed or severely damaged. Local authorities, including district officials and the police, have been working to evacuate people from vulnerable areas, ensuring that safety measures are in place to prevent further casualties.

As a precautionary measure, all schools and colleges in the affected areas have been closed for the day. Authorities have also urged residents to stay indoors and follow the guidance of local officials for their safety.

The authorities are continuously monitoring the developments, ensuring that all necessary steps are taken to safeguard civilians in the region. (JKNS)
