Jammu: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Saturday trapped and arrested PSI Murtaza Rehman, Incharge Police Post GMC Jammu, along with his driver/SPO Himanshu Sharma, for demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹13,000 from a local vendor.
In an official statement issued to the news agency JKNS, the ACB said it received a complaint alleging that PSI Murtaza Rehman and his driver demanded illegal gratification from the complainant for allowing him to run a Rehari (street cart) at the exit gate of Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu.
The complainant, unwilling to pay the bribe, approached the ACB with a formal complaint seeking legal action. A discreet verification followed, confirming the demand of bribe by the accused. Consequently, a case FIR No. 06/2025 U/S 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and Section 61(2) BNS, 2023 was registered at ACB Police Station Jammu, and investigation was taken up, it reads.
During the investigation, a trap team led by a Gazetted officer was formed. The team successfully laid a trap and caught PSI Murtaza Rehman and SPO Himanshu Sharma red-handed while accepting the bribe amount of ₹13,000 from the complainant, in the presence of independent witnesses.
The accused were arrested on the spot following all legal formalities. The bribe money was recovered from the possession of the accused in front of independent witnesses associated with the trap team.
Additionally, searches are being conducted at the residential premises of both accused in the presence of Magistrates and independent witnesses.
