Srinagar: Heat wave conditions continued across several parts of Jammu and Kashmir, with Srinagar recording the second hottest April day for the second consecutive day on Wednesday at 30.9°C.
Kokernag in south Kashmir recorded its highest-ever temperature for the month of April at 29.1°C, breaking an 18-year-old record of 28.3°C set on April 30, 2007.
Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, also recorded the second-highest maximum temperature for April, with the mercury settling at 30.9°C. The hottest April day on record was 31.3°C, recorded on April 20, 1946.
While the heatwave persisted across various regions of JK, the Director of the Meteorological Department (MeT), Dr Mukhtar Ahmad, advised the public to stay hydrated. He recommended drinking plenty of water and fluids, staying indoors, and avoiding outdoor activities during peak hours from 12 pm to 3 pm.
Meanwhile, the MeT forecasted the possibility of brief spells of showers at isolated to scattered places, accompanied by thunder and gusty winds, from May 1 to May 5. Weather is expected to remain dry from May 6 to May 7, with light rain and thunder expected on May 9 and May 10, Dr. Ahmad added.
