Srinagar, Apr 25 (JKNS): Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Friday reaffirmed that the entire opposition fully supports the government’s actions in response to the Pahalgam terror attack, which resulted in the deaths of over 26 civilians and left many injured.
Speaking to the media in Srinagar, Gandhi, as per news agency JKNS, said, “We held a detailed discussion with the government. The opposition has strongly condemned this horrific attack and has pledged complete support to the government for any measures it deems necessary.”
Gandhi, who arrived in Srinagar earlier today, visited one of the injured civilians and expressed his heartfelt condolences to the victims’ families. “The attackers’ goal was to sow division. It is now more crucial than ever that every Indian unites against terrorism,” Gandhi said.
He continued, “My thoughts and sympathies are with those who have lost loved ones. This tragedy calls for national unity, not division.”
Expressing concern over reports of Kashmiri students and businesspeople being targeted in other states, Gandhi noted that such acts of discrimination only serve the interests of the terrorists. “It is painful to hear that innocent Kashmiris are being targeted elsewhere. We must not let hatred prevail. This is exactly what the enemies of peace want,” he stated.
Gandhi urged all citizens to remain unified and resilient in the face of terrorism. “We must stand together and defeat terrorism, for only unity can ensure its defeat,” he added.
In his statement, Gandhi further mentioned his discussions with Jammu and Kashmir’s Chief Minister and Lieutenant Governor, who briefed him on the developments. “I assured them that both myself and the Congress party fully support the government’s actions,” he said.
Leader of the Opposition, also met with the victims and their families who were injured in the Pahalgam attack.
The terrorist incident in Pahalgam is an assault on humanity, a shameful attempt to erase love and brotherhood, he sai in a post on X.
“We are all united against terrorism. We must stand together to give a strong response to these hateful forces,” said Gandhi. (JKNS)
