Faizabad Dildar Residents Demand Safe Bridge for School Children
FacebookTwitterWhatsappTelegram

Karnah, Kupwara: A temporary wooden bridge over Nallah Bat Moji in the Faizabad Dildar (A) area of Karnah has become a serious safety hazard, particularly for school-going children who are forced to cross it daily under life-threatening conditions. The bridge, which connects several villages, is the only passage for dozens of students commuting to schools in Dildar, Batpora, Kundi, and nearby areas.

With no alternative route, children from Turbuni, Maqam Chanipora, and Khodpara must navigate this fragile structure each day to attend school. During rainy weather, the stream swells and crossing becomes perilous. A single misstep on the deteriorating wooden planks could result in a tragic accident.

“This bridge is a ticking time bomb,” said a concerned local resident. “We’ve raised the issue many times, and while the authorities have made repeated promises of constructing a proper bridge, nothing concrete has materialized.”

Locals recount that various proposals for a permanent solution have been discussed in the past, but for reasons unknown, none were implemented. With the rainy season approaching, fears have intensified as the bridge continues to weaken, putting children and other commuters at increasing risk.

“The government must act now. If something happens to even one child, the loss will be irreversible,” said another resident, urging authorities to prioritize the safety of school children and daily commuters.

Talking with our Correspondent Civil Society Karnah General Secretary Raja Waqar made a unified appeal to the district administration and concerned departments for the immediate reconstruction of a durable and safe bridge. Until then, residents warn that the current situation could lead to a major disaster if left unaddressed.
