Srinagar: A non-local labourer drowned in river Jhelum at Patalbagh area of Pampore in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Monday.

An official told news agency JKNS that the deceased has been identified as Nami Sahani, 45, son of Sarjo Sahani, a resident of Bihar, who was working as a sand labourer in the area.

Soon after the incident, the police team headed by SHO Pampore reached the spot and a rescue operation was launched.

The body has been retrieved from the river and shifted to Sub District Hospital (SDH) Pampore for medico-legal formalities, official said.

Police have taken cognisance of the incident and further investigation started. (JKNS)
