Pulwama: As part of the ongoing flagship campaign- Nasha Mukht Bharat Abhiyan aimed at combating drug abuse, a series of impactful awareness programmes were Saturday held at Pulwama, Khrew, Tral, Pampore and Awantipora Municipalities of Pulwama district.
These programmes mark a significant intensification of the district administration’s anti-drug initiative, following the earlier awareness drives held across rural panchayats.
The events witnessed active participation from officials of key departments including Health, Education, Police, Social Welfare and Rural Development, alongside representatives from Women Self Help Groups (SHGs), local civil society and large gatherings of students and youth.
The sessions focused on sensitizing the public, particularly the youth about the devastating physical, psychological and social consequences of drug addiction. Special emphasis was placed on preventive education, role of families and communities in early detection and the accessibility of rehabilitation and counselling services.
Speakers at the events reiterated the need for a community-driven approach to effectively tackle the growing challenge of substance abuse. Thorough discussions, interactive sessions and expert talks were held during which participants were encouraged to act as agents of change within their localities.
To strengthen outreach, a wide range of IEC materials including posters, pamphlets, banners and booklets were distributed among attendees.
The IEC campaign continues to gather public support and is expected to further expand its reach in the coming days with more activities planned in both urban and rural parts of the district.
