Srinagar: Following the directions of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Dr. Bilal Mohi-Ud Din Bhat, teams of the Food Safety & Drug and Food Control Organization Saturday undertook an intensified markets checking in City areas particularly around Gurdwaras and Mughal Gardens, aimed to safeguard public health by ensuring the quality and safe food items are sold in City markets on the eve of Baisakhi festival.
During the drive led by Assistant Commissioner Food Safety, as many as 10 Food Business Operators (FBOs) were compounded under Section 69 and Food Safety & Standards Act for violating Food Safety and Standards Act. A collective penalty of Rs 11,000 was also realized from the 4 FBOs on the spot.
The team conducted one-on-one sessions with FBOs to educate them on compliance with food safety standards, highlighting the importance of public health.
Stressing that consumers play a vital role in ensuring food safety for the community, citizens were urged to report food safety concerns on the toll-free helpline: 104 with substantial evidence to support swift and effective action.
Notably, the collaborative effort between the authorities and the community aims to ensure safe and high-quality food for all, fostering trust and health during this festive season.
