Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir government has approved an increase in financial assistance under the Marriage Assistance Scheme for girls from the poorest families, as per an official order issued by the Social Welfare Department.

As per an order issued by the Commissioner Secretary to the Government, Social Welfare Department, a copy of which lies with news agency JKNS, the financial assistance for marriageable girls belonging to AAY ration card holder families has been raised from Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 75,000 as a one-time grant.

However, the financial aid for girls from PHH ration card holder families will remain unchanged at Rs. 50,000, the order states.

The government has also incorporated an amendment to the earlier order, No. 49-JK(SWD) of 2022, dated March 22, 2022. The revised assistance will be applicable from April 1, 2025, onwards. (JKNS)
