Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference on Saturday expressed grave concern over the exorbitant spending of public funds on chartered flights during the last three years emphasising that such reckless expenditure is intolerable and demands a thorough investigation.
The party said BJP’s attempts to shield mishandling of funds speaks volumes.
In a statement released from the party headquarters, NC’s State Spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar expressed grave concern on the use of chartered flights and excessive spending amounting to Rs 35 crore in J-K.
Imran emphasized the urgent need for a thorough investigation to determine the validity of these actions.
“Who approved such extravagant spending? Who were the individuals benefiting from it? This issue involves the misuse of public funds, which clearly falls under the jurisdiction of the assembly and elected government. The plane, purchased with taxpayers’ money, was left exposed to the elements at Jammu airport for five years – a clear display of negligence.
Why was it left out in the sun in such a manner? It is imperative that those responsible for these actions are held accountable,” Dar said.
“ The misuse of public funds and resources cannot be tolerated. The people of Jammu and Kashmir deserve transparency and accountability.”
Shocked by the BJP’s attempts to shield mishandling of funds, questioning, “What is bothering the BJP? We are simply seeking accountability. Who is the BJP trying to protect? The chaos caused by BJP MLAs clearly indicate their involvement in the embezzlement.”
The J&K Assembly witnessed stormy scenes on Friday as the Treasury and Opposition benches traded charges over the government spending on guests and chartered planes in the last three years.
An Independent MLA had demanded a probe into the Rs 15 crore spent on chartered flights alone in the last three years.
